Cindy Sherman, a pioneer feminist photographer

Cindy Sherman´s self portrait

Cindy Sherman, which full name is Cynthia Morris Sherman  (19th January, 1954) and nowadays is living in New Jersey, has become one of the most influential photographers in the period after the war in New York. Also she dedicates herself to film production and art. She studied Visual Arts in the Buffalo State College, where she got influenced by artists like Robert Longo and Charles Clough, which joined her foundation Hallwalls, an space for independent artists like them to show their work.
However, the actual reason why I have chosen her as a reference in this ground is the fact that through her own portraits she has tried to make the world question about conflictive themes such as the women role in society and mass media. Because of that, she can be considered a pioneer in the feminist fight, expressed through her art.

Cindy Sherman explains about what does her work want to express

In 1999, she won the sweden photography award Hosselblad, due to her trayectory in photography.
Although she might be excentric and some of her sessions are polemic, people have to get her deepest message which is no other than the liberation of the woman in a society in which every main character is a man.
Sessions in which she is doing man activities to defend the equalty

She uses costumes to teach that other realities can also be valid
